Many homeowners have questions about the ability of their home to accept the weight of roofing materials – whether it is another layer of asphalt shingles or a new tile roof. Most homes in America are constructed in accordance with the Conventional Light-Frame Construction section of the building codes and will support a wide range of roofing materials in a wide range of weights. For example, most building codes allow the installation of 2-3 layers of asphalt shingle which creates a load comparable to that of a tile roof.

Most homes can accept the weight of our standard weight product line but if your project requires a lighter weight product, we offer our 600 or 700 series of tile. Our 600 Series tiles weigh less than 6 pounds per foot and are truly lightweight. They are designed from the outset to be sub-600 while still passing our stringent requirements for strength and weather resistance.
