Snow Retention

In cold, snowy climates proper snow retention is the difference between a long lasting tile roof and a disaster waiting to happen. Without proper snow retention, there are many risks involved with a snow load on your roof. The first risk is to people below the eave. If a large, heavy, ice-hardened snow load begins to slide off the roof, it could severely injure someone below. Another risk is to the roof: as snow slides down the roof, its heavy mass can break tiles, vent pipes, eave components and anything else that may be in its way, resulting in costly repairs. The third risk is to the roof structure. Shedding water off the roof is absolutely crucial at valleys, where two roof slopes are directing all the water they collect to the same point. A poorly designed valley can quickly lead to significant damage. MonierLifetile developed the Ribbed Valley Metal and provides nothing less to insure a free-flowing valley that will protect the structural integrity of the roof valley.
